Weekly Mivtzoim at Rutgers University

The Rabbinical College Of America – Chabad Lubavitch HQ of New Jersey, under the leadership of Rabbi Moshe Herson, has been sending student representatives to Rutgers University to do outreach work with the over 7,000 Jewish students on campus.

For 2 years now, the young Rabbis travel to New Brunswick every Friday, where they set up a booth on the main Campus, and distribute Chabad’s weekly brochure “Think Jewish” shabbat candles to the Jewish girls, as well as assisting many of the Jewish boys with putting on the Teffilin.

The Rabbis are met each week with much excitement from the students, the Jewish organizations on Campus and in the wider area.

Every week Hundreds of students come by to greet the Rabbis, pick up the weekly brochure, Shabbat candles, and put on Teffilin. one of the young rabbis proudly says “there has not been a week, where we have not found a Jewish student and put on Teffilin with him for his first time ever! We celebrate Bar Mitzvas on the street every week! Sometimes two or three!”

This Chanukah marked the third consecutive year that the students have been spreading Judaism, Jewish pride and practice on campus. Each year the Rabbinical students arrive at Rutgers with cars equipped with electric Menorahs on the roof, they distribute hundreds of free Menorah kits and Chanukah guides to every Jewish student they meet, spreading the joy and encouraging the message and celebration of Chanukah.

This year the Rabbinical students had a large scale operation on campus, beginning with the first grand public Menorah lighting at Rutgers, with a local Israeli student honored with the lighting of the large Menorah, which stood outside the central student center and Brower dining halls.

They then distributed free Menorah kits and fresh doughnuts to the participants, followed by jewish music and Menorah kit giveaways through the night.

and for all practical prposes, the 770 by rutgers is not a chabad house. on chabad.org there is no official chabad house by rutgers.

Rabbi Herson, is an examplary Shliach, which despite all odds, and those who may stand in the way, continues to do the Rebbe’s work throughout the entire New Jersey! Hatzlocha Rabo to you, and to your Shliach Pinni, and a tremendous Yasher Koiach for all you do!

I just looked at Rutgers.edu (http://scheduling.rutgers.edu) and it says there that the semester ended on Thursday december 23.
which left 2 nights of chanukah mivtzoim for these bochrim which worked so hard and had so much hatzloche!

Dont write comments that are negative without properly researching the matter.

The Rutgers Jewish Student Center had a Dinner 2 weeks ago with the President of the College as a guest speaker after the Lt. Governor spoke. Seems to me that the Center does tremendous work with outreach to the 7,000 Jewish students on Campus. Kol hakovod, keep up the g8 work!

There is a whole family who has been on shlichus there for over 21 years not to mention was sent by The Rebbe and work very hard to reach the thousands of Jews going to that campus every day! It would cause a lot of hardships on the family (The shlmuchim and their children) if they would send out someone to compete. Its enough that the bochorim that come now try and interfere and not at leaat TRY and work together.

Why do you care? This is all just “fluff”, keep up the work you have been doing for so many years and the Rebbe will have lots of nachas.
