Hebrew School Sends Chanukah Package to Soldier

Several students of Rabbi Pesach’s Burston’s Chabad Hebrew School class pose for a photo with Jarrett Joyce, center, holding the Chanukah package they made for his father, Michael, who is a US soldier in Afghanistan. A copy of this photo was also included in the package send to Mr. Joyce.

Celebrating the holidays are always more joyous when celebrated with family. For the Joyce family of Highland Falls, NY this won’t be possible this year as their dad, Michael, is a US soldier in Afghanistan helping to fight the war on terror.

This is close to home for Rabbi Pesach Burston’s Chabad Hebrew School class, as one of the students is Jarrett Joyce, Michael’s son. To help celebrate across the miles, the class prepared a special Chanukah package that was sent to Mr. Joyce.

The class made a Chanukah card with messages from all the students, filled the package with Chanukah treats and Jarrett also included a drediel he crafter at Chabad Hebrew School.

“Thank you for protecting our country and for making the world a brighter place,” one student wrote.

Jarrett Joyce, 11, center, watches as his Chabad Hebrew School classmate Zach Stichman, 12, writes a message to his Jarrett’s dad, Michael, us US soldier in Afghanistan, while Jack Berry, 11, fills the package with Chanukah goodies.
