Pittsburgh Mayor Lights the Menorah
PITTSBURGH [CHI] — The first night of Chanukah was ushered in by the mayor of Pittsburgh and the Head Shliach Rabbi Yisroel Rosenfeld, with the lighting of the Menorah at the Government building.
Rabbi Yisroel Rosenfeld addressed those attending, which included the Mayor of Pittsburgh, Government officials, the Chairman of the United Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh – Mr. Zev Rudolph and over one hundred men and women braving the frigid cold temperatures in the snow. In addition the many media outlets that were covering the event.
Rabbi Rosenfeld spoke about how the Rebbe called that we all bring light into the world, every day we should increase and add to what we accomplished yesterday, by doing acts of goodness and kindness; this is incumbent on all of us, no matter where we are.
That was followed by the address of the Mayor of Pittsburgh, Mr. Luke Ravenstahl who thanked Chabad for coming out to light the menorah, and continuously lighting up the world with goodness and kindness. The Mayor also lauded the many successful programs offered to the community by Chabad, the Yeshiva the Friendship Circle of Pittsburgh etc.
The Mayor was honored with the lighting of the Shamos, and then the first candle was light by the Head Shliach Rabbi Yisroel Rosenfeld. The Yeshiva boys choir, led by Mr. Moshe Pekkar then entertained the hundreds in attendance with the traditional Chanukah songs. Hot latkes were served.
The event was organized by Chabad of Pittsburgh, Rabbi Yisroel Altein.
