After leaving Russia in 1946 with their first child, escaping the war through Germany & Austria, where the next two children were born, they settled in Toronto, Canada, and raised their children there amongst the Anash families in the area.
Oldest Chosid Celebrates 96th Birthday
CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn — As Rabbi Zalman Light celebrates his 96th birthday on the 5th night of Chanukah, the “Festival of Lights,” he is surrounded by 100+ children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren for the annual birthday party, which grows in number each year K”H.
Rabbi Light (Liachow) was born in 1911 and married Lena Minkowitz in 1944. After leaving Russia in 1946 with their first child, escaping the war through Germany & Austria, where the next two children were born, they settled in Toronto, Canada, and raised their children there amongst the Anash families in the area.
In 2004 Rabbi & Mrs. Light moved to Crown Heights, where they are constantly surrounded by their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who visit and spend quality time with (elter) Bobby & Zeidy. Rabbi Light attends a daily Yiddish Shiur at the Kollel Tiferes Zekeinim in Crown Heights.
This year, Rabbi Light celebrated his birthday with a grand party coordinated by his five children, Brenda Eber – CH, Shmuel Light – CH, Berel Light – NJ, Rifka Rapoport – Toronto, & Gitty Weingarten – CH.
