Historic: 770 Gathers to Choose New Niggun for the Rebbe’s Kapitel – 6 Nissan 5748
On Thursday evening (6th of Nissan 5748), all ten Negunim composed in honor of Yud Aleph Nissan were presented at 770, representing submissions from around the world. A special committee of expert musicians (“Baalei Menagnim”) convened in a designated room to evaluate the entries. After careful deliberation, they selected the melody composed by Rabbi Aharon HaKohen Blesofsky of Crown Heights, based on the verses (Chapter 87, verse 8).
The melody was received with great enthusiasm and joy by Anash and the Temimim. An orchestra quickly formed, and Rabbi Blesofsky personally taught the crowd the new niggun.
The joy was further heightened by the exciting news—announced in the midst of the farbrengen—that the Rebbe, shlita, would be coming to 770 for that Shabbos as well.
The niggun continued to be sung for many hours afterward.
