Dutch Police Foil Attack on Chabad Center, Two Teens Arrested

Authorities in the Netherlands say a potentially dangerous incident targeting a Jewish institution was prevented after police detained two teenagers and discovered suspected explosive materials near the scene.

The incident unfolded in the town of Heemstede, located west of Amsterdam, during the early morning hours between Thursday and Friday of last week. According to police, officers on patrol at approximately 1:15 a.m. observed two individuals acting suspiciously near a Jewish compound, reportedly connected to a local Chabad House.

The officers approached the suspects and detained them on the spot. The individuals—identified as a 14-year-old and a 17-year-old, both residents of Amsterdam—were subsequently taken into custody.

During a search of the surrounding area, authorities located materials believed to be explosives near the site. Officials say the timely intervention by law enforcement, along with prior surveillance, likely prevented what could have been a serious attack.

The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have not yet released further details regarding the suspects’ motives or whether additional individuals may have been involved.

The incident comes amid heightened concern over antisemitic threats across Europe, with Jewish institutions continuing to maintain increased security and vigilance.
