80 Years of the Rebbe’s Haggadah: A New Annotated Edition

Since the publication of the Rebbe’s Haggadah in 5706 (1946), eighty years ago, Chassidim have never ceased to explore its depth and wonder.

The Rebbe’s Haggadah stands out for its remarkable clarity, precision, and brevity. Within its sources, explanations, notes on nusach, and insights into the plain meaning lies extraordinary brilliance—resolving many longstanding questions that have challenged the greatest commentators for generations.

Interwoven throughout the Haggadah are the unique Chabad customs for the Seder night, excerpts from the sichos of the Frierdiker Rebbe, Chassidic insights, and teachings that the Rebbe heard from his father, the mekubal Rabbi Levi Yitzchak Schneerson, of blessed memory, based on the hidden dimension of Torah.

To uncover the full depth of the Rebbe’s Haggadah requires thorough study and broad knowledge of the topics discussed within it. This created a clear need to make the Rebbe’s explanations and innovations more accessible to the wider public—enabling everyone to study the Rebbe’s Haggadah with full understanding.

In honor of the eightieth anniversary of its publication, a team of Torah scholars has undertaken a landmark project: to produce a new, fully annotated edition of the Rebbe’s Haggadah, to be published by Kehot Publication Society.

The editorial work is being led by Rabbi Efraim Fishel Oster, one of the Roshei Yeshiva at Oholei Torah Yeshiva Gedolah. The goal of the team is to present each segment of the Rebbe’s commentary with clarity and precision, showing each idea as a complete topic in its own right—with all the questions it resolves and the underlying logic it illuminates.

In honor of the Rebbe’s birthday on Yud Alef Nissan this year, a special preview edition has been released, offering a glimpse of the forthcoming annotated volume, which—with G‑d’s help—will be published in full in the coming year.

The news of this project has generated immense excitement among Anash and Temimim, who for years have longed for a comprehensive commentary on the entire Rebbe’s Haggadah gathered in one place.

The forthcoming edition will, b’ezras Hashem, open the gates for tens of thousands of Jews to study the Rebbe’s Haggadah in a new light—deeply, thoroughly, and with renewed appreciation for the Rebbe’s Torah.
