Lubavitcher’s New Book Becomes #1 Release on Amazon

A newly released book chronicling the remarkable journey of a Chassidishe family has quickly climbed the charts, holding the #1 spot in Jewish History new releases on Amazon since its debut this past Tuesday.

Legacy of Resilience: The Remarkable Journey of the Schapiro Family, authored by Nuchie Schapiro, was released this past Tuesday—coinciding with the yartzeit of the author’s zaidy, Reb Lipa Schapiro.

The 624-page volume, produced in full color and featuring over 550 photographs and documents, traces the story of mesirus nefesh, survival, and rebuilding across generations. Drawing on years of research, interviews, and archival material, the book offers a richly detailed and immersive portrayal—described by readers as a scholarly work of the highest caliber—capturing the lives of Chabad Chassidim who survived the horrors of the Second World War with a clarity and depth rarely seen, bringing to life the experiences of a family and a broader community.

While the book features many individuals, it gives particular focus to several central figures—most notably Reb Lipa Schapiro, whose life and legacy run throughout the narrative. It also includes the first comprehensive account of his father-in-law, Reb Zalman Vilenkin, who served for years as the Rebbe’s melamed, offering rare insight into his time in the home of Reb Levik and his reunion with the Rebbe after the war. It likewise chronicles the life of his son, Rabbi Levi Yitzchok Schapiro, a beloved mechanech and menahel at Oholei Torah, whose influence shaped generations of talmidim.

The extensive collection of never-before-seen images and documents adds a powerful visual dimension, making the story accessible and engaging, while the carefully researched and detailed captions provide depth and context, allowing readers not only to see the material, but to understand the story behind each item.

The book is now available for purchase on Amazon and in Crown Heights seforim stores.

Schapiro noted that beyond its performance among new releases, the book has also entered Amazon’s broader Jewish history rankings. “It’s one thing to be ranked among new releases,” he said, “but Amazon also has a Top 100 list for Jewish history overall—where you’re competing with the most widely read works of all time.”

He added, “The book reached the #10 spot in all of Jewish History on Amazon, placing it alongside authors such as Viktor Frankl, Elie Wiesel, and Anne Frank. Honestly, if I didn’t see it myself, I wouldn’t believe it.”
