Vaad of Agudas Chassidei Chabad Releases statement On War Taking Place in Israel
Motzei Shabbos Parshas Zachor, 5786
To our fellow Anash,
Greetings and Blessings!
Right now, as the Jewish people, both in Israel and across the globe, face a very unique and challenging situation, we are writing to encourage everyone to strengthen their Emunah and Bitachon in Hashem. We must remember that “the Guardian of Israel neither slumbers nor sleeps.” The Rebbe זי”ע often reminded us of the divine promise regarding Eretz Yisroel: that “Hashem’s eyes are constantly watching over it from the beginning of the year to the end of the year.” We have already seen so many miracles over this past year.
As we approach the holiday of Purim, we recall a Sicha delivered by the Rebbe זי”ע in 5726. He explained that Mordechai HaYehudi was filled with joy when he saw that the children were radiating pure faith in Hashem. He highlighted three levels of this trust based on three verses the children recited:
- Having such total trust in Hashem that one isn’t even startled by sudden threats or “bad news,” even without needing a logical explanation.
- Knowing for a fact that any negative plans against us will fail because “Hashem is with us.”
- Recognizing that even the “laws of nature” don’t dictate our fate; since Hashem created the world, He can carry us through and save us regardless of the natural odds.
In this spirit, please put every effort into Mivtza Purim. We should also increase in the other Mivtzoim especially Tefillin and Mezuzah, with much energy and genuine joy. We should thank Hashem for past miracles and have complete Bitachon for the future.
Alongside this spiritual strengthening, we must also take all necessary practical precautions. Follow the instructions of local authorities and security experts. As the Rebbe זי”ע noted, even Queen Esther only went to see the King after the people fasted and prayed. Hashem wants us to act within the natural world, but only after we’ve first strengthened our connection to Him through Torah and Mitzvos.
By remembering the miracles of the past, may we see them happen again in our own time. As the Rebbe concluded back then: when we share our excitement about Hashem’s wonders with others, it inspires everyone to do more good and bring more light into the world. May this light transform the darkness of galus into the brightness of day, with the coming of Moshiach immediately.
