Suspect Charged, High Bail Set After Vehicle Ramming at 770 Eastern Parkway

The individual who rammed his vehicle into 770 Eastern Parkway building earlier this week has now been formally charged, with prosecutors describing the incident as a serious antisemitic attack.

Dan Sohail was arraigned in NYC court and faces multiple felony charges, including attempted first-degree assault as a hate crime and criminal mischief as a hate crime, among other related offenses.

At the arraignment, the judge set bail at $500,000 cash or a $750,000 bond, reflecting the severity of the charges and the potential danger posed by the alleged actions.

The incident occurred when Sohail allegedly intentionally drove his vehicle down 770 side door ramp and rammed his vehicle into doors. Miraculously, no serious injuries were reported.

Community members and leaders expressed appreciation for the swift response by law enforcement and prosecutors. “Thank you to the @BrooklynDA and the New York Police Department for their swift action,” Rabbi Yaacov Behrman wrote on X. “Intentionally ramming a car into a synagogue filled with rabbinical students is antisemitic, period. The act speaks for itself.”

Further updates will be provided as the case develops.
