Spanish-Speaking Women to Gather in Panama for 2nd Annual Retreat

Surrounded by Jewish women from across Latin America at last year’s Spiritual Oasis Panama retreat, Verónica from Argentina felt something shift. “It brings me so much joy to connect with the energy of women on this path, each putting in the effort from their own corner of the world to sustain our Judaism, just as I strive to do,” she shared.

That sense of connection and transformation is exactly what organizers aim to recreate as they open registration for the second annual Spiritual Oasis Retreat: Panama, set to take place April 23-26 in Panama City. The three-day gathering brings together Spanish-speaking Jewish women ages 20 and up for an immersive experience of Torah learning, community connection, and spiritual growth.

Last year’s inaugural retreat drew Spanish-speaking women from around the world, many traveling significant distances to find a space where they could explore their Jewish identity alongside others on similar journeys. For Verónica, the impact went beyond expectations. “Through sharing powerful stories of always finding trust in Hashem, a retreat like this is incredibly inspiring,” she said.

“Across Latin America, women are reconnecting to their Yiddishkeit. Each guided by her local shlucha, each on her own journey,” said Rabbi Mendy Kotlarsky, Executive Director of Merkos 302. “But when they come together, something powerful happens. They discover they’re not alone in their questions and spiritual aspirations. The impact reverberates across the globe.”

The retreat takes place in Panama City’s vibrant Jewish neighborhood, with participants staying in a luxurious four-star hotel. The program includes Spanish-language classes and lectures with renowned rabbis and rebbetzins, interactive workshops, personal coaching sessions, and gourmet kosher meals throughout.

Participants will also enjoy a group excursion exploring Panama City, including visits to kosher establishments and Judaica stores. And spend an uplifting Shabbos with Panama’s Ashkenazi community.

“This retreat is designed specifically for Spanish-speaking women, meeting them exactly where they are in their Jewish journey,” said Rabbi Chai Kohan, Director of the Spanish Desk at Merkos 302. “Whether someone is just beginning to explore Judaism or has been learning for years, the retreat creates space for authentic growth. The combination of world-class speakers, meaningful conversations, and the warmth of Shabbos in community is truly powerful.”

The program is organized by Merkos 302’s Spanish Department in partnership with a dedicated team of shluchos: Rebbetzin Fradel Laine, Chana Spalter, Chani Liberow, and Miriam Feigelstock. The organizing committee designed the retreat to welcome Jewish women at every level of observance and knowledge.

Silvia from Panama, who attended last year’s retreat, praised both the content and the care evident in every detail. “The talks were so inspiring, and I loved every little chat we had,” she said. “The professionalism and care with which you handle everything is evident.”

The impact of the retreat extends far beyond the three days in Panama City. Women return home with practical tools for incorporating what they learned, along with lasting friendships and the knowledge that they’re part of a community spanning the entire region.

Early bird registration is now open through February 18, with prices rising after that date. The retreat includes all meals, accommodations, internal transfers from the airport, excursions, and the full program of classes and workshops.
