Preparing for Yud Shvat – Basi L’Gani 5726 Explained

Over the years, the Rebbe encouraged proper preparation for the great and holy day of Yud Shvat. As the Rebbe writes in his introduction to the last discourse in the Basi L’Gani series, the day of the 2nd of Nissan involves two matters: the Yahrtzeit of the Rebbe Rashab and, what pertains to us, the day the leadership of our generation began.

For this day, the discourse of Basi L’Gani was given to be studied. Every year, the Rebbe delivered a discourse on one specific chapter which is the chapter of that year. The discourses pertaining to the upcoming Yud Shvat are from the years 5726 (1966) and 5746 (1986), which are based on Chapter 16 of the original discourse.

There is a unique warmth and excitement for the Yud Shvat discourses; it is perhaps the one time a year when all Chassidim and temimim study the same ma’amar, engaging with it and debating its points.

To make it easier for the many who wish to understand the discourse, a booklet has been released again this year. it contains:

Section 16 of the original Basi L’Gani discourse.

– The 5726 (1966) discourse with an integrated commentary that explains the entire ma’mar in clear language.

The commentary was written by Rabbi Shmuel Pevzner. His father,    Rabbi Avraham Baruch Pevzner (Shliach and Rabbi of the Chabad community in Paris, France), reviewed the entire commentary and provided insights.

Additionally, the booklet includes the discourse “Vayolech Hashem,” which the Rebbe delivered on the Shabbat following Yud Shvat in 5726, where several concepts from the first discourse are explained. It also features the teachings of our Rebbes cited in the discourse. All of the above is printed with the permission of Kehot Publication Society.

The commentary is available for download and printing.
