Hundreds of Families Join Moshiach Learning Initiative: Learn By The Lights

As flames flicker and latkes sizzle in living rooms across the world, children gravitate closer to the menorah. Along with the bright feelings and warm bellies, routines unravel and days blur with drives, guests, and long meals. And then Chanukah can feel like a missed opportunity, flickering and fading along with the puddles of melted wax.

But what if these moments beyond the norm can be anchored in lasting meaning?

Learn by the Lights is a short, nightly study released by the Moshiach Office at Merkos 302. Designed to take 10–15 minutes, the program invites families to explore how Chanukah’s growing lights can point us toward the light of Geulah. It’s built to fit into the rhythm of this unique time: by the menorah, at the supper table, on the way to a program, at a school lunch, or at a family Chanukah event.

“The Rebbe taught us that Moshiach is not an abstract hope, it’s a reality we build toward in everyday life,” said Rabbi Mendy Kotlarsky, executive director of Merkos 302. “Chanukah is already full of light and warmth. This learning gives that energy direction.”

Each lesson connects the night’s candle to a core concept of Moshiach as both personal growth and collective redemption for your family to pause, reflect, and kindle more than just the wicks.

“Why eight nights?” a child may ask. And you share: Seven is the rhythm of the world, of time, nature, limits. But eight? Eight reaches beyond the darkness of galus, revealing the sparks hidden deep inside to a world lit up by the light of Moshiach. This Chanukah, give your family a gift of knowledge and empowerment. And as your candles burn low, the message of eight candles will continue to shine.
