Holocaust Memorial Exhibition Opens in Mogilev

A powerful new exhibition dedicated to the memory of Holocaust victims has opened at the Jewish Educational Centre in Mogilev, Belarus. Titled “How Could a Human Do Such a Thing?”, the exhibition features archival materials from Yad Vashem in Jerusalem, including photographs, letters, personal testimonies, and Nazi propaganda.

The exhibition includes a special focus on the Jewish community life in Belarus and he FSU —its vibrant pre-war life, the horrors it endured during the Nazi occupation, and the stories of survival. Through poignant images and detailed records, it highlights the human faces behind historical statistics.

Organizers, headed by the city’s Chief Rabbi Mendel Alperowitz, emphasized that the exhibition seeks not only to preserve memory but also to spark moral reflection. Schoolchildren, students, and other visitors are invited to guided tours that encourage engagement with the themes of dignity, remembrance, and the consequences of indifference.

The exhibition holds deep significance in a city where thousands of Jews perished during the Holocaust, serving as a lasting tribute to their lives and a call to remember.
