Kids Become Reporters on Shazak’s Free Parsha Site
Shazak Multimedia, a leader in Jewish children’s “edutainment” for more than 25 years, has launched a new kid-friendly “news” website, News.Shazak.com, offering creative, safe, and educational content based on the weekly Parsha and upcoming Jewish holidays.
As children increasingly encounter unsafe or developmentally inappropriate content online, Shazak aims to provide a free, ad-free, secure, imaginative alternative that engages young minds while reinforcing Torah learning and creative exploration.
A New Way to Experience the Parsha
The new website presents key events from each Parsha or holiday as a playful “news story,” blending classic Shazak humor with real Parsha events. Each report is accompanied by features such as:
– “Did You Know?” — Recaps and enriching facts related to the report
– “Shazak Bonus” — Additional insights for deeper learning
– Puzzles — Customizable, kid-friendly puzzles
In addition, visitors can explore a growing collection of free resources, including:
– Parsha Post — A one-page humorous newspaper featuring weekly Parsha “headlines”
– Games — Skill-building activities that strengthen Hebrew and Judaic knowledge
– Parsha on a Page — A 9-12 scene storyboard that also doubles as a coloring sheet
– And more to come…
Kids Become the Reporters
A unique element of the new platform is its open invitation for children and classrooms to contribute video segments. With parental consent, participants can submit short videos (up to 10 minutes) in which they:
– Acting out a scene from a Parsha or the events of a holiday inspired by Shazak material or style
– Highlighting a feature of Shazak that they particularly enjoy
– Storytelling in the “voice” of a character from a Parsha or holiday
– Reporting “live” from the scene of the Parsha or holiday in the persona of reporter Scoop Shazakowitz (beloved and known to all Shazak fans)
– An “advertisement” for a fake product connected to the Parsha or holiday (as seen regularly in the Parsha Post)
– Whatever else they think will educate and entertain their peers
All submissions will be reviewed and appropriately edited by the Shazak team before being published on the site.
Published submissions will occasionally be rewarded with prizes from the Shazak store.
A Classroom-Friendly Project
Rabbi Moshe Moscowitz, creator of Shazak Multimedia and longtime classroom educator, hopes the website will inspire creativity both at home and in school.
“Costumes, props, and special effects are welcome—but absolutely optional,” said Rabbi Moscowitz. “This is ideal for a class project that reinforces what students are learning while letting them express themselves in fun and meaningful ways.”
Free for the Public
While Shazak’s core curriculum, audio recordings, and signature images and coloring sheets – displayed in more than 1,600 web pages – remain exclusive to Shazak member schools and families, the new news website is free for all to enjoy, offering a wide range of resources designed to educate, entertain, and elevate.
