Aleph Honors Jewish Heroes on Veterans Day

This Veterans Day, the Aleph Institute pays tribute to the Jewish men and women who have served—and continue to serve—with courage, faith, and devotion to our country. Their stories remind us that the values of duty, compassion, and moral strength are deeply rooted in Jewish tradition.

In a special Veterans Day video released by Aleph’s Military division, Colonel Jack Jacobs, the only living Jewish Medal of Honor recipient, reflects on his experiences in combat and what it means to serve as a Jew in the U.S. military. His insights capture the unique blend of faith and service that continues to inspire Jewish service members today.

Colonel Jack Jacobs served as a platoon leader in the 82nd Airborne Division, executive officer of an infantry battalion in the 7th Infantry Division, and commanded the 4th Battalion 10th Infantry in Panama. He deployed to combat in Vietnam twice, both times as an advisor to Vietnamese infantry battalions, earning three Bronze Stars, two Silver Stars, and the Medal of Honor, the nation’s highest combat decoration. Col Jacobs retired as a Colonel in 1987.

Aleph Military is proud to serve those who serve by providing Jewish chaplaincy, advocacy, religious resources, and community connection to thousands of Jewish service members and their families across the globe. On this Veterans Day, Aleph honors their courage and reaffirms its commitment to ensuring that no Jewish service member ever feels alone.
