Covina Jews No Longer Feel Like “the Only Jew in town”
Nestled in suburban Southern California, just 20 miles from downtown Los Angeles, beautiful Covina attracts young professionals, families, and retirees alike. But many felt isolated, as if they were “the only Jew in town.”
Now they have a Chabad House, led by Rabbi Yisroel and Chaya Baumgarten.
Over the High Holidays approach, they personally delivered honey cakes and High Holiday postcards throughout the area, inviting new friends to join them for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur celebrations.
Starting from the ground up, the Baumgartens are building connections one person at a time—hosting Shabbat dinners, prayer services, and Torah classes.
