Weekly Letter: The Significance of the Dollar Bill

The exemplary life of our matriarch Sarah is exemplified by the three mitzvos unique to the Jewish woman – challa, family purity and Shabbos candle lighting. In his detailed letter, the Rebbe addresses the question of the Candle-lighting Campaign which he initiated and the significance of the dollar bill which is received in connection with the campaign. The Rebbe expands on the concept of mitzvos as “reminders”, on the deeper significance of the woman’s unique mitzvah of the lighting of the candles before Shabbos and Yom Tov and the fascinating reasons for the custom of giving tzedoko before the lighting.
