Prestigious Village of “Novi Veshki” Celebrates New Torah Scroll

Significant progress can be seen in the noticeable development of Jewish communities in the many neighborhoods of Moscow, the capital of Russia as new communities and Chabad Houses for thousands of Jews, are being built up. Under the guidance and constant monitoring of the Chief Rabbi of Russia, Rabbi Berel Lazar Shlita, who constantly strives to reach every Jew in Russia, many means are invested every day, especially in preparation for the Jewish holidays and special dates.

At the same time, hundreds and thousands of residents are choosing to move to new neighborhoods in the suburbs surrounding the capital, to escape the noise and bustle of the busy metropolis for a slower pace of life.

“Novi Veshki” is one such example. A prestigious village that was built from the ground up and already contains many hundreds of beautiful, elegant houses with green areas surrounded by lakes, forests, and orchards. Along with the development and expansion of its Jewish residents came the need to open their own community and synagogue. In response to this request, the Chief Rabbi sent Rabbi Zalman Shimon HaCohen Deren, who serves on a daily basis as the ‘secretary’ of the Chief Rabbinate of Russia and the inspector of mikvahs throughout Russia.

Great joy enveloped the community upon hearing that a new Torah scroll is being donated by the Yakubov family. Distinguished members of the community, they dedicated a most exquisite Torah scroll, with beautiful accessories, in memory of their beloved parents. The community, which has minyanim, Torah classes, holiday events and youth activities, serves the neighborhood’s many Jews throughout the year.

The celebration, held in the synagogue hall, was skillfully led by the family’s friend, the Shliach Rabbi Avraham Elimelech Gedzh, who invited the Chief Rabbi Shlita to finish writing the Torah scroll. After  Divrei Torah and blessings, he presented their sons Mr. David and Mr. Moshe with a prestigious certificate along with a dollar and blessings from the Lubavitcher Rebbe, on behalf  of the charitable organizations in Moscow, which the Yakubov family supports regularly.

During the seudas mitzvah, the guests were also addressed by the Rabbi of the Bolshaya  Bronaya synagogue, Rabbi Yitzhak HaKohen Kogan, the Mara De’asra Rabbi Zalman Shimon Deren, and many distinguished friends and community members.
