Republican Mayoral Candidate Curtis Sliwa Visits The Ohel

With just days left until election day, Republican candidate for NYC mayor, Curtis Sliwa, made a visit to the Rebbe’s Ohel in Cambria Heights, Queens, to pray for strength, wisdom, and a blessing.

“My relationship with the Lubavitcher Rebbe is deeply personal,” Sliwa wrote in a social media post. “It began during the Crown Heights riots after protecting the community, the Rebbe gave me two dollars for charity and a blessing—“Rebbe Dollars.” One of those blessings saved my life during a shooting. That kind of protection changes you.”

Sliwa, who holds the Republican vote in NYC, is presently polling behind both the front-runner Zohran Mamdani and independent Andrew Cuomo. Cuomo has gained endorsements from nearly every Jewish community in NYC, including all factions in Crown Heights.

The visit to the Ohel by Sliwa follows a long list of public officials who come to the Ohel to pray before elections, including U.S. President Donald Trump, whose campaign turned in his favor following a widely publicized visit.

Sliwa noted that his visit to the Ohel came during the toughest part of the campaign, and that he was “here at the Ohel, the Rebbe’s resting place, to pray for strength, wisdom, and the blessing to finish this journey in a meaningful way.”
