New Chabad Center Opens In Citrus and Hernando Counties In Florida

Two months ago, Rabbi Moishy and Maryasha Serebryanski moved to Beverly Hills, Florida, to establish Chabad of Citrus and Hernando Counties on Florida’s Nature Coast. Known for its crystal-clear springs, abundant wildlife, and small-town communities, the Nature Coast stretches along the Gulf of Mexico and attracts retirees, families, and nature enthusiasts alike.

The move came after a local conservative synagogue, struggling with declining attendance, reached out to Rabbi Bentzion Korf, Director of Chabad in Florida, to help revitalize the Jewish community. With an estimated several thousand Jews spread out across the counties, the Serebryanskis saw an opportunity.

Since arriving, they have focused on personal outreach, Torah classes, and holiday gatherings. “Over Rosh Hashanah, one lady came to her first Jewish event, and now she lights Shabbat candles every week,” Rabbi Serebyranski shared.

In the coming months, they plan to hold prayer services, expand programming, and host a public Chanukah menorah lighting and parade. With new homes being built and families moving to the area, the Serebryanskis see significant potential for Jewish life to thrive in the Nature Coast.
