Today, Sunday Lubavitcher Yeshiva is Open

A few years ago, while standing in the staff lounge debating whether classes should be held on the day before Erev Yom Tov, the legendary Rabbi Goldman, a”h, chimed in with a story that left a lasting impression.

When he first began teaching, The Yeshiva only gave off on Erev Sukkos. One year, during the early days of the Rebbe’s nesius, the calendar presented a kvius with Shabbos falling between Yom Kippur and Sukkos. Other Yeshivos decided to give an additional day off, and the melamdim at Lubavitcher Yeshiva felt they deserved the same.

Soon after, they received a message: Rabbi Chodakov had something to share and requested they come to his office at 770.

When they showed up. Rabbi Chodakov looked at them and said, “If you were dealing in diamonds, you would certainly show up for work on that day. Do not treat our Talmidim any less than you would diamonds.”

The message was clear. For many years afterward, no one dared request the extra day.

Decades later, Lubavitcher Yeshiva continues to walk in that path—giving our children the chinuch they deserve, treating them with even greater care than diamonds, and shaping each one into a true Tomim.
