Video Breaks Down Mishneh Torah Editions for Today’s Learners
As Jews around the world seek to deepen their understanding of Torah and mitzvos, JNet’s latest Torah Unboxed episode offers timely guidance by exploring Rambam’s Mishneh Torah.
“Jews everywhere are searching for deeper connection,” says Rabbi Mendy Kotlarsky, executive director of Merkos 302 and chairman of JNet. “Many know they have a rich heritage but don’t know how to begin exploring it. Our mission is to provide them with accessible, authentic Torah study opportunities.”
With so many editions of Mishneh Torah available today, choosing the right one can feel overwhelming for both beginners and seasoned learners. To make that process easier, JNet introduced Torah Unboxed, a Torah book review series hosted by Rabbi Mendel Winner, Shliach at the Chabad Neshama Center in Brighton Beach, NY. The series helps demystify the wide selection of Torah texts available, offering learners clarity as they embark on their Jewish learning journey.
Filmed at the Merkos 302 Studio, the newest episode highlights several unique editions of Rambam’s Mishneh Torah, each bringing its own style of commentary, translation, and layout. Rabbi Winner walks viewers through the strengths of each edition, showing how they cater to different needs, whether someone is studying Rambam in depth or simply beginning to explore the 613 mitzvos.
“Many people are excited to study Rambam but aren’t sure which edition is right for them,” explains Rabbi Mendel Groner, director of JNet. “Through Torah Unboxed, we’re giving learners a clearer path forward so they can find the edition that matches their level of knowledge and approach.”
Rabbi Winner notes that he has seen firsthand how the Rambam’s presentation of the mitzvos resonates across generations. “When people study the Mishneh Torah, they realize that every detail of Jewish life connects back to something eternal,” he explains. “It shifts learning from abstract study into something deeply personal and practical.”
