Continuing a Tradition of Achievement: Four Men Complete Tractate Megillah in Kyiv
In a heartening moment for Jewish life in Ukraine, four members of the Kedem community in Kyiv recently completed the study of Tractate Megillah, marking a significant educational achievement amid ongoing challenges in the region.
Yosef Kashurin and Izik Sheslivtzer joined Chaim Buriak and Shlomo Bublyniuk—who previously completed Tractate Makkot—in concluding the entire Talmudic tractate along with its classic commentaries by Rashi and Tosafot. All four participants come from non-yeshiva backgrounds, making their sustained commitment to Jewish learning all the more remarkable.
Guided by Rabbi Pinchas Vishedski, Rabbi of the Kedem community, the group maintained a steady learning schedule, meeting twice weekly under complex and often difficult circumstances. The dedication culminated in a joyous Siyum (completion ceremony) hosted at the community center, featuring a festive meal and words of Torah and inspiration.
Certificates of achievement were presented to the learners, accompanied by heartfelt congratulations from community members, family, and friends.
“The Lubavitcher Rebbe taught us that Torah study is for every Jew, no matter where they come from,” said Rabbi Vishedski. “This accomplishment is a living example of that message. Despite the hardships around us, these four men have shown what perseverance and spiritual aspiration can achieve.”
