Second-Largest City in Tartarstan Now Home to a Chabad Center
Naberezhnye Chelny, a major industrial hub, is the second-largest city in Tatarstan, a region of Russia that is the historic home of both Sephardic Jews as well as the Ashkenazim who were allowed to settle there after serving in the Tsar’s army.
This venerable and unique community now has its own Chabad center, established by Rabbi Chaim Dovid and Chaya Paer.
The Chabad center hosts Shabbat and holiday meals, services, and Torah classes, providing meaningful opportunities for prayer, learning, and celebration.
Children and youth are a key focus, with clubs, family events, cultural programs, and educational trips designed to strengthen Jewish identity—especially among the younger generation.
The center also acts as a hub for community support, where members find answers, build friendships, and deepen their connection to Jewish traditions. With its warm and inclusive atmosphere, the Chabad center is quickly becoming a vital part of Jewish life in Naberezhnye Chelny.
