Yehuda Shaffer, Candidate For NYC Council District 41, Releases Website

The Crown Heights community did it, and now the Jewish communities of Remsen Village and Brownsville are taking their turn.

Running in the upcoming election for NYC Council seat for District 41, Yehuda Shaffer is set to flex the muscle of the local Jewish community vote, one that recently began swaying elections city-wide.

“If recent events have taught us anything, it’s that we cannot rely on others to stand up for us, we must stand up for ourselves,” Yehuda wrote in a campaign announcement. “Many in our community have expressed disappointment with the response, or lack thereof, from local politicians to the recent public threats against our community.”

The answer, according to Shaffer, is a public response. “There are times when a public response is needed, to express our dissatisfaction, and to remind our allies and adversaries alike that when we feel threatened or ignored, we will rise,” he explained.

Darlene Mealy (Democratic Party) is a member of the New York City Council, representing District 41. She assumed office on January 1, 2022. Her current term ends on January 1, 2026.

Darlene Mealy, a member of the Democratic Party, is the incumbent in this race having beat out her non-existent competitor after winning the Democratic primary in 2023. She is already on the ballot for 2025 to maintain her seat on the council. Her future as the Democrat candidate will be decided in the primary on June 24, 2025.

In the last election that took place in 2023, a total of 6,289 votes were cast, an absolutely miniscule number in relation to the size of the district. Of that number, 6,134 votes went to Mealy, with the other 155 votes being distributed to write in’s and “other”.

As he kicks off his campaign, Shaffer has launched his website where donations can be made, and city funds used to match donations. To visit the website and donate: Click Here!

As part of the campaign launch, signatures of registered voters in the 41st New Yoirk City Council District are also needed. To help: Click Here!
