New Shluchim To Tanzania – Africa
Rabbi Shimi Aziza and his wife Chani, along with their children Mussi and Ari, are the devoted family behind Chabad of Tanzania – the central hub of Jewish life in this East African nation.
Their journey began with a visit during Purim 5783 (March 2023), and just a few months later, in Tammuz 5784 (July 2024), they officially launched their full-time shlichus under the guidance of Rabbi Shlomo Ben-Tolila, the Head Shliach to Central Africa, who played a key role in establishing the Chabad House.
The Jewish community in Tanzania numbers around 200 people, most of whom live in Dar es Salaam, where the Chabad House is located. The center serves as a vibrant Jewish hub – offering a synagogue, a kosher restaurant (“Jerusalem”), kosher catering services, and a grocery store.
Chabad of Tanzania also welcomes thousands of Jewish travelers from Israel and around the world who come to experience the country’s breathtaking safaris and surrounding islands.
Now, the community is taking a historic step forward:
They are working to build the very first mikvah in Tanzania.
This milestone will mark a new chapter in Jewish life on the continent – bringing the vital mitzvah of taharah (ritual purity) to a place where it has never existed before.
You can be part of this incredible mitzvah. Support the mikvah project here:
