From Hebrew Schools to Homes: New Seder Plate is Making Pesach Personal and Colorful
For generations, the Seder nights have been all about the kids. Dipping Karpas in saltwater, the Ma Nishtana questions, and retelling the Exodus story with vigor are all customs designed to pique children’s curiosity and engage them with their heritage. And what better way to extend this curiosity than having children use a seder plate they made themselves? A creative art project by CKids is now available for all.
Originally designed for bulk sales and used in Hebrew Schools worldwide, the DIY stained glass seder plate kit proved such a hit that this year CKids expanded sales to individual families as well.
“The kids loved making the Seder Plates! Our teen volunteers really wanted to create them as well, so I was happy I’d ordered a few extra,” reported Mrs. Chana Burston, Chabad of Orange County, NY, who saw how the craft inspired whole families, beyond the Hebrew School doors.
As a project of the largest network of Jewish kids, CKids Clubs and crafts are loved by Hebrew School students in 2,500 classrooms worldwide, making Jewish learning fun, interactive, and meaningful. The stained glass seder plate kit adds to their catalog of custom projects designed for both children and adults.
“The Rebbe encouraged using our talents to connect deeply to Yiddishkeit, and spread its beauty to others too,” says Rabbi Mendy Kotlarsky, executive director of CKids’ umbrella organization Merkos 302. “Meaningful projects like this solidify their connection to Jewish holidays, making Yiddishkeit personal and meaningful, something that remains with them for life.”
The kit can be used by children aged 6 and up, as well as adults. It’s perfect for Pesach workshops, women’s events, community gatherings, and home crafters looking for a meaningful DIY experience.
Each set includes all the materials needed to create a hand-painted Seder plate, with a choice of three unique designs, small bowls for the Seder items, and silver legs for an elegant, elevated display. The kit also comes with paints and paint sticks to achieve a stained-glass effect, along with a step-by-step guide that includes mitzvah missions and assembly instructions.
As Pesach approaches, this project provides an opportunity to bring color and creativity to the Seder table. Bringing a beautiful handmade seder plate to the table is a sure way to beautify the mitzvah of Matzos, which the Rebbe was so passionate about sharing with every Jew.
While previously sold only in bulk, the kit is now available in smaller sets so families and individuals can take part. Orders can be placed for a set of three or a set of six at ckids.org, with bulk options for Shluchim available too.
