Jewish Community Leaders in Moscow Thank Russian Security Forces for Eliminating a Foreign Terrorist
The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) announced today that it had eliminated an individual with Islamist views who was planning attacks at two locations: a synagogue in the Moscow region and a subway station in the capital. According to the FSB, a shootout ensued when security forces attempted to arrest the suspect, ultimately leading to his neutralization. It was also revealed that the terrorist was a citizen of a Muslim-majority country in Central Asia.
The official statement indicated that the suspect had conducted extensive surveillance of the synagogue and the subway station, which he had planned to bomb. A search of his residence uncovered materials purchased from fertilizer stores, which he intended to use in constructing explosives. According to the FSB, after carrying out the attacks, the terrorist had planned to flee to Afghanistan.
Leaders of the Jewish community in Moscow, speaking on behalf of Russia’s Chief Rabbi, Rabbi Berel Lazar, expressed their gratitude to the special forces for preventing a major tragedy, with divine assistance. They added: “Unfortunately, terrorist methods are becoming increasingly vile and brutal. Only the diligent work of the special security forces can ensure maximum safety and protection for citizens. However, even though the criminals’ plans were thwarted, we recognize that they still achieve part of their goal by spreading fear and confusion. Our response, as Jewish communities, is to strengthen Torah study, increase good deeds, and amplify spiritual light, which will bring positive influence to the entire population.”
