Skimmers Make A Comeback in Crown Heights, Shomrim Releases Warning For The Community

It’s just too lucrative a crime for the criminals to stay away.
Ever since the major theft of EBT – Food Stamps – rocked the Jewish world last year, stores and customers have been hyper aware and looking for skimmers in local stores. Despite the alert state, sometimes the criminals still get through.
Crown Heights Shomrim released an urgent warning to the Crown Heights Jewish community Monday after a skimmer was found installed in a local store. Many people’s card information may have been compromised and Shomrim is advising the community to take action.
“Scammers have once again installed a skimmer device in Crown Heights,” Shomrim wrote. They advise calling EBT to request a new card or locking your card using the mobile app launched by New York State last year.
According to someone familiar with the discovery, the scammers are using technology to enhance their criminal ability, and how many cards could have been compromised remains unknown.

Without saying which store, this information is completely useless because changing cards is such a pain that no one will do anything.
