A Passuk: Building Skills for Life

A Siyum does not happen every day. It is a special occasion that marks a milestone in learning. This was beautifully highlighted at Tomchei Tmimim Ocean Parkway (TTOP), where chinuch with intention and the culture of total care were showcased during the special siyum on Perek Alef of Chumash Bereishis.

Before the siyum began, Rabbi Lifshitz (principal), farhered the class on the entire Perek Alef of Bereishis. The boys passed with flying colors!

The Siyum itself began with the introduction of a new passuk. Fathers and relatives watched with pride as the talmidim broke down each passuk into its core skills and worked step by step on their journey to become independent learners.

The Talmidim proudly presented their beautifully crafted student-made posters depicting the six days of creation. Then, the boys collected foods that were themed for each of the Sheishes Yemei Bereishis and matched them to the corresponding creation day, on a placemat with pictures.

Adding to the excitement, the boys and fathers played a Bingo game using words and prefixes from the Chumash. The Siyum ended with the boys decorating custom covers for their Chumashim with their fathers.

This Siyum was more than just an academic milestone; it was a celebration of chinuch with intention. These lessons are sure to stay with the students for a lifetime, fulfilling the promise of “Gam Ki Yazkin Lo Yasur Mimenu”—that the Torah learned “Al Pi Darko” will never be forgotten.
