Jewish Heritage Night Brightens the Kia Center

An exhilarating display of Jewish Pride filled the Kia Center, as over 19,000 fans gathered to celebrate Jewish Heritage Night with the Orlando Magic. The festivities commenced with an engaging outdoor Chanukah-inspired fan fest, where attendees enjoyed activities, Jewish music, moon jumps, Kosher food, all set against the backdrop of a towering menorah.

The evening’s pregame show was a spectacle of talent and joy, featuring performances by students from the Gotlib Jewish Academy of Orlando and the energizing sounds of rapper Nosson Zand. As the first quarter drew to a close, the arena dimmed, spotlighting the menorah for a moment of unity and tradition as representatives from Chabad lit the candles for the 5th night of Chanukah. The mood was further uplifted by the Dreidel dancers, who spun into the hearts of the audience with lively Chanukah music.

Halftime was nothing short of spectacular, with Jewish Artist Yaakov Shwekey taking the stage to deliver an awe-inspiring performance. Shwekey’s songs of Jewish inspiration, including “We are a Miracle,” “United We Stand,” and the rousing “Aish,” electrified the crowd, culminating in a stunning fireworks display on center court.

Yaakov Shwekey shared, “After speaking with an Australian group of Jewish kids who came to Orlando to participate in Jewish Heritage Night, they shared how rampant antisemitism is over there. I felt a tremendous show of light from the Jewish world in America. United We Stand, United we sing. Chabad Orlando keep spreading the light!”

The basketball action was equally breathtaking, as the Orlando Magic staged an incredible comeback from a 21-point deficit, securing victory with a game-winning shot in the final second. “The Magic started to close the gap just after the dreidels danced on the court. I’m sure it had something to do with it. Many Jewish Heritage Night attendees come for the Menorah but when the Magic win it’s a big plus!” remarked Rabbi Levik Dubov, Director of Chabad of Downtown Orlando.

Post-game festivities extended the cheerful atmosphere, featuring a show by Jewish celebrity, actor, and comedian Josh Peck. Sharing insights into his career, Jewish upbringing, and lifestyle, Peck added a personal touch to the night’s narrative.

Rabbi Dovid Dubov, Director of Jewish Heritage Night, reflected on the event’s profound impact: “The significance of Jewish Heritage Night for our community is beyond measure. It has been a transformative experience for many, shifting perceptions and deepening connections with Judaism in profound ways. We consider this event the most remarkable Kiddush Hashem moment of the year, beautifully showcasing the depth and beauty of Judaism in a way that deeply resonates with our community.”
