Celebrating 55 Years of Lubavitch in Scotland
Some 170 people filled Giffnock shul hall in Glasgow this past Sunday 24 November to celebrate 55 glorious years of Lubavitch in Scotland and 18 years of L’Chaim’s Kosher Catering.
A presentation video showing the main Lubavitch activities over the past five years during Covid was shown.
Guests of Honour were Glasgow’s leading charitable benefactors David and Carole Walton who were presented with a collector’s item Menorah and a floral arrangement.
Tribute was paid to their generosity in supporting Lubavitch and numerous other charitable organizations within the community.
Guest speaker was Rabbi Colonel Yankel Goldstein from the USA. Rabbi Goldstein was the first Lubavitch rabbi to serve as chaplain in the US military. During his twenty years of service, he achieved a government motion to be passed that any Chabad Lubavitch Rabbis serving as a chaplain may wear a full beard, contrary to the general army dress code. Rabbi Goldstein inspired the audience with several interesting stories and his connection with Rabbi Jacobs as yeshiva students when they both studied at the main Lubavitch Yeshiva in Brooklyn, New York sixty years ago.

Dinner organizer was second son Sholom who arranged the sound and lighting and sang several inspiring songs. The songs ‘Mi Sheberach and Acheinu Beis Yisroel.
Magnificent catering was provided by L’Chaim’s Kosher Catering organized by Sora.
Rabbi Jacobs made special mention of the numerous blessings and guidance always given by the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem.
In thanking the community for their past, present and future support Rabbi Jacobs said that without his wife Sora’s efforts and constant support most of the
Lubavitch and L’Chaim’s Catering work would not have taken place. He proclaimed Sora the ‘Queen’ of the Glasgow Jewish community.
He said they look forward to continuing serving the community for as long as the Al-mighty gives them the health and strength to continue the holy work
Besides being surrounded by numerous friends and supporters from all sections of the community, so many who had attended Lubavitch activities over the many years, they were joined by some 30 family members, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren who flew in specially to celebrate this historic occasion.
