Additional Details in the Murder of Rabbi Zvi Kogan Emerge

The murder of Rabbi Zvi Kogan, a Shliach in Abu Dabi in the UAE, shook the Chabad world last week, leading a mass drive to do more Mitzvos and became the centerpiece of the International Kinus Hashluchim taking place in Crown Heights.

Details on the events that led up to the murder of Rabbi Kogan have been sparce, but some details have emerged through reporting of and announcements by UAE authorities.

According to a report by the Wall Street Journal, Rabbi Kogan was initially kidnapped, with three Uzbeck nationals planning to abduct him and take him to Oman, but something went violently wrong. UAE authorities found Rabbi Kogan’s car, abandoned, near a town on the Oman border.

The three Uzbeck nationals fled across the border and made their escape by air, landing at a Turkish airport – what they thought was – ahead of the authorities. They were wrong.

UAE officials had worked exceedingly fast for such an international incidents and Turkish officials were waiting as the three Uzbecks exited the airport. They were arrested and deported back to the UAE in what was termed “record time”.

Additional details on what took place are unlikely to be released by authorities.

The murder of Rabbi Kogan has become a centerpiece in the presently ongoing International Kinus Hashluchim, where thousands of fellow Chabad Shluchim are feeling the loss.
