The Mossad has launched an investigation after Rabbi Zvi Kogan, a Chabad Shliach and dual Israeli-Moldovan citizen went missing Thursday from a town in the area of Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates.
According to reports, Rabbi Kogan, who runs a Kosher Supermarket in Abu Dhabi, was being followed from the Supermarket and disappeared soon after. “We understand that those responsible [for his disappearance] have escaped to Turkey. His body has not been found,” an Israeli official told Ynet.
At present, officials are unsure as to what happened to Kogan, with his abandoned car found in the City of Al Ain, near the Border with Oman and over 90 miles from his home in Abu Dhabi.
After failing to arrive at a scheduled meeting, Kogan’s wife contacted the Chabad security officer, who appealed to higher authorities about his disappearance.
The Foreign Ministry of the United Arab Emirates has released its first statement following Kogan’s disappearance. In addition to Mossad, the UAE Ministry of Interior is participating in the Search for Kogan.
There is growing concern among Israeli Security Officials that Rabbi Kogan was Kidnapped and possibly murdered by a group of Iranian Intelligence Agents from Uzbekistan, and that they have since fled to Turkey.
