Russia’s Chief Rabbi Visits the Satmar Rebbe Horav Zalmen Leib in Williamsburg
Rabbi Berel Lazar, the Chief Rabbi of Russia, currently visiting the United States, was honored with a visit to the Satmar Rebbe Horav Zalmen Leib in Williamsburg. For over an hour, the two discussed the state of Russian Jewry, the activities of Chabad emissaries throughout the former Soviet Union, and the historical ties between the Chabad and Satmar dynasties.
The Rebbe expressed deep interest and admiration for Rabbi Lazar’s dedication and efforts on behalf of Yemenite and Iranian Jews, as well as the work of the educator, Rabbi Zalman Leib Markowitz, who was present at the meeting.
Accompanying Rabbi Lazar was Chabad Actevist Rabbi Eli Slavin of Crown Heights.
After presenting the Rebbe with his new book, “Shlach Lachmecha,” the guest and host shared a toast and exchanged New Year blessings.
Rabbi Lazar arrived in New York at the head of a group of one hundred supporters of his institutions to participate in the annual Selichot prayers at the Ohel.
