Chabad Shliach Steps Into New Role As Army Chaplain for the Oregon National Guard

Chabad Shliach to Tigard, Oregon, Rabbi Menachem Orenstein, has been commissioned as Chaplain for the Oregon National Guard, a position he has taken on proudly.

“I’ve been blessed to serve here in Tigard as Rabbi and emissary of the Rebbe, and have seen the great impact that Jewish spiritual leadership can have, both in good, and in harder times,” Rabbi Orenstein said. “I believe the military chaplaincy is a natural extension of this mission and offers a chance to bring opportunities for good deeds to those in need.”

Rabbi Orenstein is no stranger to the military, with both of his grandfathers serving in World War II in the Europe and Pacific theaters. This is something he has always been proud of.

“I am looking forward to serving my country and am honored to carry on their legacy,” he said. “I hope that this opportunity will also strengthen our connection and outreach here in Tigard, and the surrounding areas.”

The commissioning ceremony took place Sunday with his family joining him for the swearing in ceremony.
