NEW COURSE – Choshen Mishpat Renaissance
Kollel L’Rabbonei Chabad – A community of Experienced and Aspiring Rabbonim – is excited to announce a new series on the Alter Rebbe’s Choshen Mishpat. The course will be called Choshen Mishpat Renaissance. This will be a three year, in-depth class, studying the Alter Rebbe’s Choshen Mishpat with a strong focus on practical modern application. There is no cost to join these shiurim.
Rabbi Betzalel Bassman the Menahel of Kollel L’Rabbonei Chabad said: “Although the primary focus of Kollel L’Rabbonei Chabad is a 10-year curriculum with in-depth learning and shimush in Orach Chaim and Yoreh Deah, we have some projects in the pipeline to restore the primacy of Chosen Mishpat in Lubavitch. This new series, Choshen Mishpat Renaissance, bezras Hashem, will be the first of many projects in that direction”.
Rabbi Berel Polityko, a prestigious chaver of Kollel L’Rabbonei Chabad, will be the maggid shiur. Rabbi Polityko commented about this shiur: “Choshen Mishpat isn’t just for rabbonim and dayonim; it covers many laws that affect our daily lives, both at work and in personal interactions. The Alter Rebbe’s Choshen Mishpat, as stated on the shaar blatt, compiles “הלכות הצריכות מטור חושן משפט” (“Laws that are needed, compiled from the Tur Choshen Mishpat“) and focuses on laws relevant to every person in practical situations.
Choshen Mishpat is notoriously challenging to learn and can take years of study, even for someone learning all day in kollel. That’s why the Alter Rebbe’s Shulchan Aruch is such a valuable resource. Many of the halachos in Choshen Mishpat are dinim de’oraisa, so it’s crucial for every frum Yid to be knowledgeable about them.
Our shiur aims to increase understanding by focusing on reading the Alter Rebbe’s text and emphasizing practical application in the 21st century, guided by contemporary poskim..”
Rabbi Polityko is talmid chacham that answers shailos in Airmont, NY. He studied semicha in 770, and also received semicha from Rabbi Gedalia Oberlander and Rabbi Tuvia Kasimov. He received shimush from Rabbi Gedalia Oberlander and Rabbi Shaul Yechezkel Schwartz, the Debretziner Dayan.
