Camp Lman Achai Shabbaton and Lag B’Omer

Camp L’man Achai recently had one of its largest Shabbatons. For the first time, it also included participating in The Great Lag BaOmer Parade. Over 50 campers and staff joined for shabbos and the parade.

Campers arrived as far away as Iowa, North Carolina, Florida, Texas, and more. Before shabbos, the campers toured Kingston Avenue and got some erev shabbos goodies from some of the local stores. Followed by sports games in the park with refreshing ice cream.

From there everyone went to their hosts to get ready for Shabbos. All the campers and staff met up at 770 for a group picture followed by davening in 770. A Special area was arranged for the campers, from where their Davening could be heard throughout 770. The Shabbos meals were graciously hosted by Crown Heights families and were followed by games and stories. 

Shabbos morning after a delicious breakfast, the campers learned about Lag Baomer and the Rashbi. A camp style davening took place in Oholei Torah, followed by activities and a grand shabbos meal, hosted by the Labkovsky family. The meal was followed by a farbrengen with Rabbi Shimmy Weinbaum. 

On Motzei Shabbos, everyone met at the Brod’s home for a lag BaOmer bonfire and barbeque. Rabbi Dovid Astulin shared some of his stories and what he went through as a kid to be a Jew in the Soviet Union, which greatly inspired the boys.

On Sunday the campers and staff all participated in The Great Parade! The boys got involved and had a great time.

We would like to extend a thank you to all the staff who worked tirelessly to make the Shabbaton the amazing success it was, as well as all the Crown Heights families that hosted campers for sleeping and meals.

The campers were sad to leave, but are all looking forward to another amazing summer at camp in just a few short weeks.
