Young Orange County Shliach Celebrates Bar Mitzvah with Mitzvah Auction for Israel

Over 250 pledge cards with Mitzvahs for Israel were recently pledged at the bar mitzvah of young shliach Ziggy Burston in Monroe, New York. Ziggy, son of Shluchim Pesach and Chana Burston, of Chabad of Orange County, New York, recently celebrated his bar mitzvah at his family’s Chabad House.

During the celebration, a special Mitzvah Auction for Israel was held in honor of the bar mitzvah.  Participants were given pledge cards selecting a mitzvah for Israel, which resulted in a chance to win 13 Judaica themed prizes. Judaica items were made by Israeli artists, and included Shabbos candlesticks, a challah board and cover, havdalah set, Kiddush cup, a kosher mezuzah scroll and case, a selection of Jewish books among others.

Ziggy urged all participants to take on a new mitzvah in honor of Israel and in the merit of the safe return of every hostage. The prizes were raffled off at the end of the celebration.

Many community members pledged to put on Tefilin, light Shabbos candles, make Challah, attend a Torah class, recite the Shema daily. One woman even pledged the mitzvah of mikvah.

Ziggy is an active participant in his family’s Shlichus in Orange County and is a student at Cheder Chabad of Monsey.
