The Time To Prepare Is Now

Today is Rosh Chodesh Shevat. We stand just a short ten days away from marking 74 years since the anniversary of the Frierdiker Rebbe’s histalkus, and at the very same time, the day the Rebbe’s nesius began. As early as thirty days before Yud Shevat, Chassidim around the world busily begin preparing for this auspicious day by studying the Basi Legani maamorim, taking on hachlatos tovos, and doing everything they can to approach the day with the appropriate hachanos.

Rosh Chodesh Shevat also marks a special stage in the hachanos, as on this day in 5711, in preparation for the first anniversary of the Frierdiker Rebbe’s histalkus, the Rebbe wrote two letters addressed to all Chassidim. The first letter encouraged Chassidim to learn the maamar of “Basi Legani” in honor of Yud Shevat, and the second letter detailed the appropriate conduct for the upcoming day. (Read the full letter in English here.)

At the time, Chassidim saw this as a clear indication of acceptance of the nesius, as the Rebbe addressed all the Chassidim collectively, beginning with the words: “In response to the many requests…” (Read more about that here.)

And 41 years later, on Gimmel Shevat 5752, the Rebbe emphasized that as we come closer to this auspicious day, and especially as we enter the week of Yud Shevat, a heightened level of preparation is necessary on the part of each and every Chassid.

To that end, Vaad Or Vechom Hahiskashrus is pleased to present five useful collections of Yud Shevat-related resources (below) to assist you and your family in your preparation.

In line with the Rebbe’s suggestion and request for the day, all Chassidim are invited to join in a Chassidishe Farbrengen on Zoom marking Yud Shevat on Motzoei Shabbos Yud Shevat at 8:30 pm. The Farbrengen will be addressed by Rabbis Boruch Hertz, Chicago, Illinois, Moishe New, Hampstead, Quebec, and Mendel Rubin, Albany, New York. The Farbrengen will be emceed by Rabbi Mendel Kaplan, Thornhill, Ontario. Click here for more details.
