PROGRESS: Netzigim Meet In Crown Heights, Begin The Process of Reform
by CrownHeights.info
At a meeting that took place last night in Crown Heights, with the goal to change the direction of the Crown Heights community, and it’s what people in the Shchuna have been asking for, for years.
The Netzigim, representatives of Crown Heights Shuls as outlined in the Vaad Hakohol bylaws, sat down with the first of a series of issues needed to allow for the community to begin the process of elections-recreating the boundaries of Crown Heights.
According to the bylaws, only a small area is officially considered Crown Heights, leaving out many of the established shuls and thousands of community residents. Without this portion of the bylaws being updated, chances of actual – and accepted – change would be an impossibility. With that in mind, the first meeting of the Netzigim in years took place, and that issue among others were tackled.
At the meeting, according to a participant, it was agreed to make the change to the community boundaries, effectively allowing all shuls and all community members a say in a future election for Vaad Hakohol and elections for Rabbonim on the Crown Heights Beis Din. Agreed, the group got to work setting up a committee to deal with making the required amendment to the bylaws. Once ratified, this would allow the Shuls outside the previous boundaries, but inside the updated ones, to send their own representatives and launch the process of local elections.
Others issues discussed included the plan for an election for the Vaad Hakohol, with the estimated date planned after Shavuos followed by an election for a third Rov to be added to the Beis Din. These dates are obviously preliminary as many things need to fall in line for any election to take place.
Regardless, this is the furthest any action has gone in years towards reforms in Crow Heights.

would be nice to know the names of Netzigim and who is running this.?
without full transparency, this seems like some back door way for others to take control

Every Shul that has a regular shabbos minyan is meant to send their rep. The reps are meant to have equal votes. So if your shul doesn’t have a rep make one that is your transparency. Unfortunately that wasn’t done in a while… If done right it should provide its own transparentcy.

As a Netzig from one of the Shuls in the China, why weren’t we informed of the “meeting?”

See comments about transparency (it is as clear as mud).

You make it sound as though people and shuls were excluded originally. Why didn’t you say that the by-laws have to be changed because of the incredible expansion of the shechuna??

Hope they don’t get trouble from radical women who want to vote. Or from fake ballots.

Every single adult over the age of 18 including woman should have the right to vote not just one vote per family

Netzigim Meeting is very important and vital step towards reshaping the community, I am sure the Rebbe will have Nachas Rucha from these meetings.
In the Rebbe’s terminology
יהי רצון שתהיה פעולה נמשכת
No doubt that with Achdus, it will be fruitful and will bring the Geula.
Just a woman
Women do live in the community, some are not married (single, widowed, or divorced), and should be entitled to vote and have their voices heard.
Just as the borders expanding, so should women be allowed to be heard.
