“A Forgotten Chapter Of Jewish Crown Heights” To Delve Into The History of A Historic Crown Heights Building Steeped In Chabad History

The Unity Club is a name with some swagger. Beginning in 1914, this upscale Jewish club met there at 19 Rogers Avenue at Dean to plan wildly ambitious efforts to transform Brooklyn.

By 1944, the club moved to Park Slope and another transformative movement took residence: the first Chabad yeshiva in the USA.

19 Rogers Avenue is situated on a Native American trail and a likely African burial ground, and was the site of a young Al Sharpton’s first sermon.

The future may likely bring a new Jewish institution to the building.
