First European CYP Encounter for Young Jewish Professionals

by Zelig Katzman

Amidst the resurgence of antisemitism in Europe and around the world, Chabad Young Professionals International is taking proactive steps to bolster Jewish pride. Building on the success of regional Shabbaton Encounters in the US, CYP International is joining forces with Mehut Europe to launch the inaugural CYP Europe Shabbaton during Chanukah. This unique event is designed to bring together dozens of young Jewish men and women for an extended weekend dedicated to celebrating Jewish life and delving into the richness of Jewish tradition.

With nearly 100 participants from ten countries, including Italy, Austria, France and Germany, expected to join, Encounter Europe is off to an impressive debut. “As CYP chapters have sprouted up throughout Europe, and seeing the remarkable success of the regional Shabbaton Encounters we’ve held across the US, it was only natural to bring the phenomenon to the European stage. We’ve already seen much excitement and anticipation from the leaders and members of the participating CYP chapters, and we are confident that this will be a memorable and uplifting weekend for all who attend,” said Rabbi Beryl Frankel, director of CYP International at Merkos 302.

Held in Canazei, Italy, this event will host young professionals aged 22-38 across Europe at the renowned four-star My Kosher Hotel in the Dolomite Alps. The meticulously planned weekend will feature gourmet Kosher meals, workshops, group discussions, farbrengens, and social events. Held during Chanukah, it will also include special Menorah lighting programs, complete with Sufganiyot and words of inspiration. Fun is an equally important objective of this weekend program, featuring multiple skiing trips and other outings.

“Our goal is to create a comfortable environment where participants can engage in interactive classes and have the opportunity to create lasting bonds with like-minded fellow Jews,” says Rabbi Zalmen Shimon Springer, Director of the Mehut learning program and CYP Rome, who is working with Rabbi Hershy Weinstein of CYP International at Merkos 302 on organizing the extraordinary weekend.  “At a time when our collective Jewish identity is deepening, and young Jews around the world are rediscovering their dormant yet innate connection to Judaism, we are providing them with an outlet and a safe space to explore and nurture it.”

“As young Jews around the world are once again confronted with an increasingly hostile world. We hope programs like these empower a new generation of Jewish leaders by fostering a sense of community, belonging, and Jewish pride,” said Rabbi Mendy Kotlarsky, Executive Director of Merkos 302.
