Photos of Rebbetzin Chana’s Funeral, One of Four Newly-Published Photo Collections

Following extensive effort, JEM is proud to announce today, Vov Tishrei, the publication of four collections of pictures of the Rebbe that have yet to be seen by the public.

These scenes span four decades of Tishrei moments in the Rebbe’s presence, from the 5720s, 30s, 40s and 50s (1960s through ‘90s). Some of these photos have recently been donated to JEM. Others, with the ongoing reorganzing of the archives, have recently received renewed attention and have been restored.

Most noteworthy, are photos capturing glimpses of the Rebbe on 7 Tishrei, 5725, during the funeral of the Rebbe’s mother, Rebbetzin Chana Schneerson ע”ה. Captured by Moshe Aron Kogan, these are the only known photographs of the funeral procession itself on President Street, outside the Rebbetzin’s apartment.

The next collection released today features beautiful and rich scenes captured by Levi Freidin, showcasing moments from Chol Hamoed Sukkos 5736, during Freidin’s first visit to New York, in unparalleled vivid color.

An extensive collection of pictures from Lekach distribution on Hoshana Raba 5749, also by Levi Freidin, will provide many Chassidim with the opportunity to find photos of themselves receiving Lekach directly from the Rebbe.

And finally, photos from Erev and Motzaei Yom Kippur, 5750, photographed by Chaim Baruch Halberstam, explore the special moments surrounding the holy day of Yom Kippur in the Rebbe’s presence. Experience the Lekach distribution, preparations for Birchas Habanim in the final solemn moments before Kol Nidrei and, twenty-six hours later, the exhilarating moments following Napoleon’s March, as the Rebbe returns to his room.

Thank you to Rabbis Mendel Gourarie, Motti Hazan and Memkeh Schmukler for making this possible.
