New South Florida Kollel To Be Named For Late Montreal Chief Rabbi Pinchas Hirschprung OBM

This Monday at the 42nd Annual Dinner of Congregation Levi Yitzchok – Lubavitch/Chabad of South Broward Headquarters, Rabbi Raphael Tennenhaus Executive director of Chabad of South Broward, and Senior Rabbi of Congregation Levi Yitzchok – Lubavitch, will announce the expansion of the CSB Kollel and its naming as the Kollel D’Rav Pinchas.

The current Kollel for Businessmen and Professionals has been operating for 15 years with different classes and Chavrusas for men – both during the morning hours and evening hours at CSB. Shiurim and Chavrusas have been arranged by many of the Rabbis and Shluchim of CSB, including and especially by Rabbi Mordy Feiner, Rabbi Mendi Levi, Rabbi Eli Phillips and Rabbi Raphael Tennenhaus.

With the quantity and quality of the expanded new Kollel D’Rav Pinchas, the community can expect additional classes and lectures and a more organized schedule that will maximize the participation of the community, G-d willing.

Schedule of Shiurim and actual classes in Kollel D’Rav Pinchas will start on Tzom Gedaliah, 3 Tishrei 5784, the 30th Yahrzeit of Reb Avrohom Dovid Tennenhaus, z”l.

Kollel D’Rav Pinchas, under the auspices of Chabad of South Broward, is a joint venture of the Hallandale Beach and Hollywood Lakes communities.

Some 300 new families have recently moved to these communities, including many Talmidei Chachomim, Torah scholars, in their own right.

In addition, Kollel D’Rav Pinchas plans to include community members who will receive a stipend for the time they are studying, either part time, or eventually full time in the Kollel.

There is no limit to the potential of what this Kollel can become for the Jewish community in Hallandale and Hollywood, South Broward and all of South Florida!

Rabbi Pinchas Hirschprung knew the Shas and the Codes of Jewish Law and the Rambam, all with many commentaries, by heart, word for word! At 18 years old, he was the “Boichen”, the one who tested new potential students, in the famed Yeshiva Chachmei Lublin,  under the leadership of Rabbi Meir Schapiro.

Rabbi Hirschprung served as chief Rabbi of Montreal for many decades, was the founder and director of the Beis Yaakov in Montreal and the Rosh Yeshiva of Tomchei Temmim Lubavitch of Montreal. Rabbi Hirschprung was also a close friend, Chavrusa and neighbor of Reb (Avrohom) Dovid Tennenhaus, z”l, father of Rabbi Raphael Tennenhaus. The two studied a one on one Chavrusa in the Bobover Beis HaMidrash every Shabbos morning before Daavening for 13 years, and studied Gemorah together for many decades.

A booklet published several years ago for a Simcha, with stories of the Rebbe and Reb Dovid Tennenhaus, included numerous stories of Rabbi Hirschprung. The booklet can be found here.

“It is a great honor for our Kollel to bear the name of Rabbi Hirschprung, a person who loved Torah, lived Torah and breathed Torah.

We are confident, that this “loving, living and breathing Torah” will be the feeling and experience by everyone who studies Torah in Kollel D’Rav Pinchas”, Rabbi Tennenhaus remarked.

Mrs Rochel Hirschprung-Newman, MSW, LSW, one of Rabbi Hirschprung’s daughters, was ecstatic at the opening of the Kollel in Florida in her father’s name: Wow! What a merit! How generous!

    כל הכבוד לכם!
I am so pleased to learn of this wonderful initiative. As a former student of this great Gadol HaDor, I can assure you that if your students gain only a minute fraction of Rav Hirschprung’s , zt”l, Torah in their studies , they will become great Scholars.
