That’s when it dawned on me.

We can’t control our destination in life. We can however control how we accept it. We can fight it or we can rise up and accept it. When we do rise to the occasion, we travel first class on a ship. When we don’t, we arrive at that same exact destination, this time traveling in the belly of a whale.

Yup, that belly of the whale.

I think we can all relate to being there before. That dark, smelly, suffocating place where we feel choked and trapped and often regret the decisions that we made that got us there in the first place. Often, it’s precisely in that dark and uncomfortable place that we suddenly see the light and have the clarity to see a tafkid in front of us.

You see, as much as we can recognize the smarts in accepting our tafkid and not running away from it, as humans, it can be a little tricky.

Sometimes we don’t even realize we are running away. Sometimes, we only realize it’s our tafkid from the dark place, the same way when you are in a dark theater looking at a brightly-lit stage, you see all those details so clearly.

It may be a tafkid we knew we were trying to avoid. Or it may even be a tafkid we weren’t aware of until being in the belly forced us to dig deep and ask, “Why? Why am I here?”
