Rogers Park Band Unveils “Shamil”, Bringing the Story to Life

Rogers Park Band, led by childhood friends Mordy Kurtz and Yosef Peysin, presents their latest release, “Shamil.” Inspired by the story shared by the Lubavitcher Rebbe on Simchas Torah in 1958, the song encapsulates the essence of yearning and determination.

“Shamil” draws from the tale of Shamil, a leader of tribes in Russia’s Caucasus Mountains over a century ago. Amidst Russian attacks, Shamil’s leadership thwarts defeat. However, a treacherous peace proposal leads to his imprisonment.

“The song is based on the concept of struggle and being stuck in that spot, when you are created to do something but you feel too stuck to do it, that pain is real and divine” says Kurtz

The first part of the song’s melody mirrors Shamil’s reflections on imprisonment and longing for freedom to serve his purpose, echoing the soul’s struggle and longing.

Rogers Park weaves Shamil’s yearning to fulfill his purpose with Chana’s yearning and praying for a child, highlighting the powerful feeling of a clear desire for the soul to identify its mission and live its purpose.

“Shamil” is available on all streaming platforms.
