Birds Nest The Culprit For Minor Fire on Kingston Ave
by CrownHeights.info
A minor fire on Kingston Ave Sunday afternoon has been blamed on some birds that decided to make their nest inside a stores gate mechanism.
A Crown Heights resident walking on the street was the first to notice the smoke coming from the storefront’s gate mechanism and alerted Crown Heights Shomrim and the authorities.
The first volunteer on the scene found smoke coming heavily from the gate lifting mechanism and immediately took action to limit the damage a fire might cause. Just minutes later, the FDNY arrived.
The firefighters quickly confirmed that the fire was isolated to the exterior of the storefront using a heat-sensing device, then forced the cover off of the gate mechanism and exposed the smoking culprit. A flaming birds nest.
In a matter of moments, the firefighters stretched a water line and doused the mechanism, quenching the fire and leaving a slightly soggy, but mostly undamaged storefront behind.
