Newly Produced by JEM: Lag B’Omer 5750
On a specially-built raised platform in front of 770, the Rebbe’s talks on Lag B’Omer 5750 – 1990 were addressed to tens of thousands who had gathered from around the world to be present at the Lag B’Omer parade, a grand salute to Jewish pride.
Beyond the crowd assembled on Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn, an international audience tuned in to watch the Rebbe’s addresses live as it was transmitted via satellite to every corner of the globe.
The Rebbe’s 30-minute talk was wide-ranging and presented a vision for a perfect world, with peace reigning among people, nations, animal life and even the earth itself.
The Rebbe explained that peace will prevail when all of humanity recognizes G-d as the common Creator of us all. This peace can extend even to animal life; they too can live more harmoniously with their fellow creatures and “the lion will lie with the lamb.” Expanding on this point, the Rebbe notes that even the earth itself should acknowledge G-d.
Seemingly anticipating major events that were to occur in the weeks that followed the address, the Rebbe observed that sometimes the earth itself is shaken, such as by an earthquake or a similar event, to serve as a reminder that G-d is in control. Indeed, six weeks later a devastating earthquake struck Iran, a correlation later acknowledged by the Rebbe and mentioned in the footnotes of the English transcript of the talk.
The Rebbe’s talk is followed by the parade itself, with floats, marching bands, and thousands of Jewish children proclaiming the message of the day. A distribution of a specially-minted coin caps the day’s events, with the Rebbe remaining to distribute them even as the rain began to fall.
This parade has been translated to English and beautifully produced in honor of Lag B’Omer this year, including the Rebbe’s two talks and the entire parade that followed.
